If you are choosing a manufacturing partner, you will meet the phrase textile testing<\/em> early on. It is one of the few things that separates a supplier’s claim about quality from documented evidence of it \u2014 which is exactly why serious buyers ask about it before they ask about price.<\/p>\n

Who does the testing<\/h2>\n

In Indonesia, textile testing is carried out by the Institute for Textile Testing (Balai Besar Pengujian Tekstil). Its laboratory has been accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities of Australia since 1994, and by Indonesia’s National Accreditation Committee (KAN) since 2003. The point of using an accredited laboratory is simple: the result carries weight because the tester is independent of the manufacturer.<\/p>\n

What gets tested<\/h2>\n

Testing covers the material at every stage rather than only the finished garment:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Fibre, yarn, fabric and garment<\/strong> \u2014 the physical properties at each step of production<\/li>\n
  • Colour fastness<\/strong> \u2014 whether the colour survives washing, light and rubbing<\/li>\n
  • Dye and chemical content<\/strong> \u2014 what is actually present in the material<\/li>\n
  • Water and effluent analysis<\/strong> \u2014 what leaves the factory as well as what goes into the product<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    That last one matters more than it used to. Buyers increasingly want to know about the process, not just the product.<\/p>\n

    What testing is for<\/h2>\n

    Four purposes, in order of how often they come up:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Confirming raw materials meet the agreed standard<\/strong> before they enter production<\/li>\n
    2. Demonstrating the production process is safe<\/strong> \u2014 for the wearer and for the people making the garment<\/li>\n
    3. Catching a wrong or substandard material early<\/strong>, while replacing it is still cheap<\/li>\n
    4. Supporting development of new products<\/strong>, where you need to know how a material behaves before committing to it<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      How we handle it<\/h2>\n

      At PT Sansan Saudaratex Jaya, products are tested against AATCC, ISO and OEKO-TEX standards. Alongside our internal testing we work with accredited independent laboratories including Intertek Utama Service (ITS), MTL and ITT.<\/p>\n

      The reason we use outside laboratories as well as our own is the same reason buyers ask for testing in the first place: a result you produced about yourself is not evidence. One produced by an independent party is.<\/p>\n
