Four Garment Products Worth Starting With

Baca dalam Bahasa Indonesia →

If you are moving into clothing, the product you start with shapes everything that follows — the fabric you buy, the factory you need, and how forgiving your first production run will be. Some categories are considerably easier to begin with than others.

Four worth considering.

T-shirts and knitwear

The most forgiving place to start. Knit construction is simpler than tailoring, sizing is more tolerant, and the market is enormous — from casual retail to sports and field uniforms, where the absorbency of a cotton knit matters. Polo shirts, casual tees and knit tops all sit in this category. Low minimums and quick turnaround make it a sensible first product.

Shirts

A step up in complexity and a step up in margin. Shirts sell into office uniforms, corporate wear and retail, and the same base pattern serves men’s, women’s and children’s ranges. They demand more of the factory — collar and cuff construction is where quality becomes visible — so this is where choosing an experienced manufacturer starts to pay for itself.

Jackets and outerwear

Higher value per unit, and a common choice for companies that find shirts and t-shirts too ordinary for their corporate wear. Outerwear is more demanding: fabric selection matters more, construction is heavier, and the fabric decision drives both cost and how the finished piece performs. Worth entering once you have a manufacturing partner you trust.

Trousers and workwear bottoms

Steady, repeat-order business. Office trousers, chinos and field trousers all fall here, and the requirements differ sharply — field trousers need a heavier, more durable fabric that still stays comfortable in the heat. Corporate and institutional buyers order these in volume and reorder on a predictable cycle, which makes them attractive once you can produce consistently at scale.

Choosing between them

Start with what your intended customer actually buys, then be honest about what your budget and your manufacturer can support. It is far better to produce one category well than four inconsistently.

PT Sansan Saudaratex Jaya produces all four categories across six units in West and Central Java, for more than forty brands worldwide.
